Student Education
Modeled along the same lines as the rest of the Crime Stoppers Program is the Crime Stoppers Student Education Initiative aimed at the region's schools including Catholic, Christian, Public and Private schools. Experience has shown us that our schools are similar to those of other communities in the province, and our school administration and students face the same crime related issues. Minor thefts, vandalism, mischief such as bomb-scares, and setting off fire alarms, drug dealing, graffiti, liquor offences and bullying are some of the criminal activities that occur in schools. So where does Crime Stoppers fit in with school crime? The answer is simple. We offer the same guarantees as our regular program, in that all callers are offered complete anonymity and cash rewards. We do not tape or trace calls. We do not subscribe to any form of caller identification. The only difference is that quite often the school administration will deal with some of these matters internally through suspension, detention or compensation for damages. Crime Stoppers still consider these as solved crimes and the caller will qualify for the cash reward. There are huge benefits to having a Crime Stoppers Program in our schools. Quite often, catching young people getting involved in crime can be the "wake up" call they need. And remember, at Crime Stoppers we want real information about real crime. Like any other crime reported to Crime Stoppers, the information has to be corroborated through other sources, such as the school administration confirming that they did, in fact, have a report of stolen articles, alarm or so on. Crime Stoppers works because it is a safe, anonymous system to pass along information about a crime to the appropriate authorities, taking personal responsibility to either help solve a crime or prevent it. Crime Stoppers is not only good for our schools, it's the RIGHT thing to do. If your school would like more information on what Crime Stoppers can do for you, contact us at 613-267-2626. We will be happy to provide information and DVD based presentations. Further information on Lanark County Crime Stoppers can be found using the index on the left. |
