Crime Stoppers is an international program that brings the public, the media and law enforcement agencies together in a cooperative effort to help solve crime. This is accomplished by offering Cash Awards and Guaranteed Anonymity to persons who furnish information leading to the arrest of, or laying of charges, against criminal offenders.

Lanark County Crime Stoppers is a community-based affiliate of the program, and covers the geographic area of Lanark County except for the municipality of Smiths Falls. Our operation is funded entirely by donations from private individuals and the corporate sector. As a registered charity we will issue official receipts for tax deduction purposes.

Crime Stoppers encourages any individual who has knowledge of any crime to submit their information using either the tips web site or the toll free tips telephone service. They will not be asked to give their name or any other identifying information. Their anonymity is guaranteed and they will not have to testify in court. Detailed information about submitting a tip will be found at Submit a Tip. If their information provides clues that are responsible for the successful solution of a crime, the tipster could earn up to $2,000 as a reward.

Crime Stoppers has proven to be an effective weapon against crime. At present there are over 700 programs in Canada, the United States and in Europe. In Canada statistics show that for every dollar paid out, over $50 in property and drugs is recovered.

Further information on the Crime Stoppers program can be found using the navigation menu on the left. In particular, the Bulletin provides some current information on issues and activities for Lanark County Crime Stoppers.
